What we do
The radioactive unit offers research groups the possibility of working with radioactive isotopes in non-encapsulated format in specific, highly equipped research laboratories. These laboratories are authorized for the handling of radioactive material with optimal safety and personal and environmental radiation protection measures.
This area has the corresponding operating authorization from the Nuclear Safety Council and is subject to annual inspections carried out by the regulatory body.
The responsible staff supervises compliance with the laws, instructions and regulations established by the regulatory body.
Equipment
The radioactive unit is equipped with:
- 1 radioactive material storage facility.
- 7 material handling laboratories, one of them refrigerated.
- 1 beta and gamma counter room.
- 1 controlled disposal room for radioactive liquid waste.
- Radioactive liquid waste containers from controlled disposal.
- Radiation protection accessories (shields and shielded containers, protective equipment, etc.) for proper work.
- Portable radiation and contamination detectors.
- 1 ventilated rack for in vivo studies.
- 1 fume extraction hood.
- 1 vertical laminar flow cabinet for cell cultures.
- 1 CO2 incubator for cell cultures.
Services
The radioactive facility offers the appropriate environment to perform the following studies:
- Labeling of proteins, lipoproteins and liposomes in vitro.
- Cell proliferation and toxicity in vitro.
- In vitro labeling of nucleic acids.
- Immunoassay techniques.
- Determination of enzymatic activities with radioactive substrates.
- Analysis and separation of labeled molecules.
- Labeled cholesterol efflux in vitro.
- Metabolic kinetics in vivo.
