What we do

The flow cytometry platform provides users with state-of-the-art equipment for cytometry analysis and cell population separation. The unit's staff supports users in experimental design, data acquisition and results analysis. In addition, users receive training so they can use the platform's equipment in self-service mode.

The cytometry platform is ISO 9001:2015 certified and can perform sample analysis, from labeling to results delivery, as well as the possibility of setting up new techniques on demand from both internal and external users.

The cytometry platform has a wide range of flow cytometry and cell separation applications and implements new ones according to researchers' demand.

Equipment

Analyzer cytometers:

FACSCalibur (BD). 2 lasers: 4 fluorescence parameters.
MACSQuant 10 (Miltenyi Biotec). 3 lasers: 8 fluorescence parameters. Equipped with magnetic enrichment column.
MACSQuant VYB (Miltenyi Biotec). 3 lasers: 8 fluorescence parameters. Equipped with a yellow-green laser (561nm), it is specialized in studies with bacteria and fluorescent proteins (GFP, mCherry, dTomato…).
MACSQuant 16 (Miltenyi Biotec). 3 lasers: 14 fluorescence parameters. Specialized in nanocytometry.

Cell separation:

FACSAria (BD) in biosafety cabinet II. 3 lasers: 9 fluorescence parameters. Collection in tubes (up to 4 populations), plates or slides. Single cell option.
AutoMACS Pro (Miltenyi Biotec) in biosafety cabinet II. Automatic magnetic separation.

Multiplex analysis:

MAGPIX (Luminex). Analysis of up to 50 analytes on a plate.

Cell dissociation:

gentleMACS Octo dissociator with Heaters (8 independent positions).

Off-line analysis software:

Flow Logic- cytometry analysis software (Miltenyi).
Belysa Immunoassay Curve-Fitting Software (Luminex- Millipore).
MACSQuantify, cytometry analysis (Miltenyi).

Services

Conventional cytometry:

Characterization of cell populations by multicolor immunophenotyping.
Cell and bacterial viability and proliferation assays.
Cell cycle and apoptosis assays.
Gene expression (fluorescent protein analysis) and quantification of transfection efficiency.
Magnetic column enrichment of the sample for detection of minority populations.

Separation:

Obtaining up to 4 cell subpopulations simultaneously (in biosafety cabinet).
Automated magnetic separation of cell populations (in biosafety cabinet).

Cell dissociation:

Independent and automated dissociation of up to 8 samples simultaneously.
Dissociation of tissues and cells for single cell or molecular applications.
Temperature function of 37ºC for enzymatic disaggregation incubations.

High Throughput Screening (HTS) analysis:

Analysis of gene expression and immunological profiles, detection of DNA, RNA and protein on a single plate.
Possibility of including up to 50 analytes on the same plate.
