Call for a T4A- Junior Research Technician the Translational Cardiology Research Group. Deadline: May 27, 2026, 3:00 pm
About the Unit / Group
The selected candidate will join the Translational Cardiology Research Group at the Research Institute of Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau – IIB Sant Pau, within the framework of the RAPID-AIM project, focused on the development and clinical validation of artificial intelligence tools applied to automated electrocardiogram interpretation and decision support in cardiovascular emergency settings.
The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Cardiology Department, the Emergency Department, and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, and aims to validate an AI-based digital solution for the early detection of acute myocardial infarction using ECG images, as well as to assess its integration into routine clinical workflows.
The unit combines clinical expertise in cardiology, acute coronary syndromes, cardiac imaging, and cardiovascular emergencies with advanced capabilities in data science, machine learning, clinical validation, biomedical innovation, and technology transfer.
Essential requirements
- Degree in Medicine with specialized training in Cardiology, accredited through national or international specialization programs, with specific training and research experience in acute coronary syndromes.
- Postgraduate, Master’s, or PhD training in artificial intelligence applied to healthcare.
- Proven experience coordinating multidisciplinary projects integrating clinical and engineering teams, focused on the development and validation of artificial intelligence in the field of cardiology.
- Professional affiliation with Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau or its Research Institute.
- Regular residence in Catalonia to facilitate coordination of the project’s clinical work. Skills will be valued
- Previous experience in clinical interpretation of electrocardiograms in cardiovascular emergency and acute coronary syndrome settings.
- Experience in clinical validation of artificial intelligence models applied to biomedical data or medical imaging.
- Knowledge of methodologies for development, training, validation, and evaluation of machine learning and deep learning models.
- Experience in management of clinical databases, medical record review, data anonymization/pseudonymization, and biomedical data quality control.
- Knowledge of ECG and digital health databases, especially MIMIC-IV or other structured clinical repositories.
- Experience preparing documentation for Ethics Committees (CEIm), competitive projects, scientific-technical reports, and follow-up reports.
- Knowledge of regulations applicable to clinical research, data protection, artificial intelligence in healthcare, and digital medical devices.
- Experience coordinating with engineering, bioinformatics, data science teams, or technology centers.
- Scientific publications or participation in competitive projects related to cardiology, acute coronary syndrome, electrocardiography, digital health, or artificial intelligence applied to healthcare.
Functions
- Coordinate the clinical activities of the RAPID-AIM project within the Cardiology Department, Emergency Department, and Research Institute of Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau.
- Act as a liaison between Sant Pau clinical teams and the technical and engineering teams involved in the project, especially the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.
- Supervise the identification, selection, review, and clinical validation of electrocardiograms included in the project.
- Participate in defining clinical criteria for diagnostic classification, including STEMI, NSTEMI, OMI, and other acute coronary syndrome presentations.
- Coordinate clinical case review, resolution of diagnostic discrepancies, and quality control of clinical annotations.
- Support the retrospective and prospective validation of the artificial intelligence model applied to the detection of acute myocardial infarction using ECG.
- Contribute to the assessment of clinical feasibility, usability, and integration of the digital tool into routine clinical workflows.
- Prepare and maintain technical, clinical, and regulatory documentation related to the project, including protocols, follow-up reports, Ethics Committee documentation, and supporting reports.
- Participate in coordination meetings, milestone tracking, deliverable preparation, and communication with the different stakeholders involved in the project.
- Contribute to the preparation of scientific publications, conference communications, dissemination materials, and competitive grant applications related to the project.
Offered
- Permanent scientific-technical activities contract linked to the RAPID-AIM project focused on the development and clinical validation of artificial intelligence tools for the early detection of acute myocardial infarction using ECG. With the support of the Department of Research and Universities of the Government of Catalonia, file reference 2025 PROD 00068.
- Part-time position of 25 hours per week.
- Salary according to the applicable collective agreement and professional category.
- Incorporation into the Translational Cardiology Research Group.
