About the Unit / Research Group
The Pathophysiology of Lipid-Related Diseases Research Group at the Research Institute of Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau is an interdisciplinary translational research team working in the field of cardiovascular diseases associated with metabolic disorders such as dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, obesity, dementia, and hyperhomocysteinemia, among others.
The aim of the group's various studies and research lines is to identify new targeted therapies and/or biomarkers in order to reduce cardiovascular risk and Alzheimer's disease in patients with these metabolic disorders, as well as to improve patient diagnosis and management.
The group comprises several research lines. The research line led by Dr. Rotllan focuses on identifying new therapeutic targets and potential treatments for cardiovascular diseases, specifically atherosclerosis.
Essential requirements
- Minimum qualification required: higher education degree —bachelor's degree, diploma, or equivalent— in Health Sciences.
- Oral and written knowledge of the two official languages of Catalonia. If the candidate does not have this knowledge, the selected candidate must demonstrate it or undertake to acquire an adequate command of both official languages of Catalonia within a period not exceeding one year.
- Intermediate-level knowledge of office software tools —Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.—.
The following will be valued
- Certification/training to work with laboratory animals.
- Experience in molecular biology: Western blot (WB), qPCR, ELISA, immunofluorescence assays, and flow cytometry.
- Experience in analytical biochemistry (COBAS analyzer).
- Experience in in vitro cell culture (transfections, gene silencing, miRNAs, etc.).
- Previous experience in atherosclerosis studies using mice. Histological staining and morphological analysis of atherosclerotic plaques.
- Experience in viability studies involving atherosclerotic plaques.
Duties
The selected candidate will carry out, among others, the following duties:
- In vitro studies in different cell types to assess inflammation (using qPCR and flow cytometry), as well as efferocytosis experiments.
- Monitor Mychochassis over time to assess its viability and persistence within the atherosclerotic plaque.
- In vivo studies of atherosclerotic plaque progression and regression in a mouse model.

- Permanent employment contract.
- Annual working time of 976.5 hours (22.5 hours/week).
- Salary in accordance with the applicable collective agreement.
