About the Unit / Group
The Lipid-Related Diseases Physiopathology Group at the Sant Pau Hospital Research Institute is an interdisciplinary and translational research team working in the field of cardiovascular diseases associated with metabolic disorders such as dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, obesity, dementia, and hyperhomocysteinemia, among others.
The goal of the group’s various studies and research lines is to identify new targeted therapies and/or biomarkers to reduce cardiovascular risk and Alzheimer’s disease in patients with these metabolic alterations, as well as to improve patient diagnosis and management.
Within the group, there are several research lines. The research line led by Dr. Rotllan focuses on identifying new therapeutic targets and potential treatments for cardiovascular
diseases, specifically atherosclerosis.
Essential requirements
- Minimum qualification required: Higher Degree Professional Studies (Higher Degree Training Cycle / FPII) or equivalent.
- Oral and written proficiency in both official languages of Catalonia, or alternatively, the successful candidate must demonstrate, or commit to acquiring within no more than one year, an adequate command of both official languages of Catalonia.
- Intermediate knowledge of office software tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Skills will be valued
- Experience in molecular biology: WB, qPCRs, ELISAs, immunofluorescence assays.
- Experience in in vitro cultures to inhibit gene expression of specific genes in vascular cells (transfections).
- Experience in cholesterol flux and reverse cholesterol transport studies.
- Experience in microRNA studies.
- Previous experience in atherosclerosis studies using mice.
- Experience in histological staining.
Functions
- Protein extraction from tissues and cells.
- Performing WB, qPCRs, and ELISAs.
- Inhibition of gene expression in vascular cells (in vitro).
- Conducting cholesterol flux studies in vitro and cholesterol transport in vivo.

- Permanent contract linked to the Knowledge Generation 2022 Project: “Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells, Reverse Cholesterol Transport, and miRNAs: Pathophysiological Mechanisms and New Targets to Prevent Cardiovascular Disease.” Project PID2022-137186OB-I00, funded by MICIU/AEI /10.13039/501100011033 and FEDER, EU.
- Annual working hours: 1,627.50 hours (37.5 hours/week)
- Salary according to agreement.
