Call for a T1A- Junior Laboratory Technician the Clinical and Translational Cardiology Group. Deadline: April 10, 2026, 15:00 h.

About the Unit / Group

The Clinical and Translational Cardiology Group is a multidisciplinary research group focused on cardiovascular research, which achieved 82 research publications in 2024, with a total impact factor of 814.4 points. The group’s research lines include basic and clinical electrophysiology, heart failure and heart transplantation, ischemic heart disease, valvular heart disease, cardiac imaging, cardiac modelling, 3D printing, and bioengineering. The group has access to all IR Sant Pau research facilities, including the animal experimentation facility. This facility includes 5 operating rooms equipped with X-ray systems, anaesthesia units, electrophysiological mapping systems, and ablation systems identical to those used in clinical practice. Dr. José M. Guerra-Ramos is the head of the Clinical and Translational Cardiology Group and leader of CIBERCV (a cardiovascular research network funded by the Spanish government). He is a specialist in Cardiology and Arrhythmology and carries out his clinical work in the Arrhythmia Unit of the Cardiology Department. He is a tenured professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and is widely recognised for his numerous national and international conference presentations and research publications.

About the Project

This project is funded through a grant from the La Marató de TV3 Foundation and focuses on a new technique for the treatment of arrhythmias: pulsed field ablation using electroporation. The main hypothesis of the project is that it is possible to create controlled areas of reversible and irreversible electroporation in cardiac tissue. It also aims to describe new methods to accurately detect the boundary between reversibly and irreversibly electroporated areas based on the measurement of local electrograms and electrical impedance. This precise delineation will allow optimization of pulsed field ablation, maximizing its effectiveness and improving its safety. The project is carried out in collaboration between the Clinical and Translational Cardiology Research Group at IR Sant Pau, led by Dr. Guerra-Ramos, and the Biomedical Electronics Research Group (BERG) at Pompeu Fabra University, led by Professor Antoni Ivorra.

Essential requirements

Minimum qualification required Higher Level Professional Studies (Higher Level Training Cycle / FPII) or equivalent
Oral and written knowledge of the two official languages of Catalonia or, failing that, the successful candidate will have to demonstrate, or promise to obtain, within a period not exceeding one year, a correct knowledge of the two official languages of Catalonia.
Intermediate knowledge of office tools (excel, word, power point, etc). Skills will be valued
Experience working with in silico / in vitro / in vivo models
Certification as a user of laboratory animals (mouse, rat, rabbit, pig)
Programming knowledge (Matlab, Python, R)
Knowledge of statistics (SPSS, GraphPad Prism, R)
Preparation of laboratory reagents and solutions
Preparation of materials for cell cultures
Collection of cellular and tissue samples from experimental animals
Preparation of OCT and paraffin blocks
Teamwork skills and willingness to learn
Proactive problem-solving attitude

Functions

Conducting in silico, in vitro, and in vivo experiments
Assisting in the application of laboratory techniques:
Cell cultures
Tissue processing for molecular, lipid, and immunohistochemical studies
Immunohistochemistry techniques (preparation of OCT and paraffin blocks, sectioning for staining, lipid and extracellular matrix staining)

Annual working hours: 1,627.50 hours (37.5 hours/week)
