About the Unit / Group

The Cellular Immunotherapy and Gene Therapy Group (GITG) of the Hematology Department focuses on the study of genetically modified T cells expressing chimeric antigen- specific receptors (CARs) and their clinical application in patients with hematological malignancies.

The GITG group at IR-Sant Pau is a well-established group that develops and manufactures

CART Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products for the treatment of patients with lymphoid

hematological malignancies.

Our group initiated a Phase I clinical trial, “the first in Europe”, using CART30 cells (HSP-

CAR30) for patients with Hodgkin lymphoma, whose Phase II is currently ongoing. During

2024, a second clinical trial was initiated in patients with refractory B-cell lymphomas using

selected memory T cells expressing CAR19 (HSP-CAR19M).

The HSP-CAR30 and HSP-CAR19M products are fully manufactured at Sant Pau by the GITG

group in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.

Current research lines focus on the following aspects of CART immunotherapy:

Investigation of the antitumor efficacy of memory T-cell subtypes.
Study of the antitumor efficacy of genetically modified stem-memory T cells expressing CARs.
Development of innovative fourth-generation CARs targeting antigens expressed in hematological malignancies.
Development of clinical immunotherapy trials using academic CART products in patients with lymphoid malignancies.

Essential requirements

Minimum required qualification: Higher Education degree (University Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree) or equivalent.
Oral and written knowledge of the two official languages of Catalonia or, failing this, the selected candidate must demonstrate or commit to acquiring an adequate level in both official languages within a period not exceeding one year.
Intermediate level of English.
Intermediate level of office software tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Skills will be valued
Knowledge of immunology, immunotherapy, tumor immunology assays, and molecular biology (qPCR).
Experience in the development of CART therapies.
Experience in flow cytometry and cell culture.

Functions

Production of advanced therapy medicinal products (CART) in accordance with GMP standards.
Management of materials in compliance with GMP regulations.
Maintenance and inspection of equipment.
Immunological monitoring studies of patients receiving CART therapy.
Data interpretation and presentation at scientific meetings.

Offered

Permanent contract linked to the research line “Development of CART therapies for hematological cancers”.
Annual working time of 1,627.50 hours (37.5 hours/week).
Salary according to the applicable collective agreement.
Research Group: Cellular Immunotherapy and Gene Therapy Group (GITG), within the Advanced Therapies Unit.
