The 2020 edition of La Marató of TV3 and Catalunya Radio por Covid-19 will be exceptional and one of the first novelties is the dissemination and awareness campaign, which usually starts in October and, in this edition, starts with a first phase in June with the graphic image, the slogan of the campaign, a new solidarity product and the possibility of already making donations.
TN Vespre premiered yesterday the first spot of La Marató, where TV3 and Catalunya Radio presenters invited citizens to participate. On the other hand, the marker is already open to receive donations through the usual channels, which can be consulted on the website of La Marató: web, transfer or by Bizum.
La Marató T-shirt: a new solidarity product
La Marató publishes a solidarity T-shirt for the first time. On this occasion, with a very special image, dedicated to La Marató by Covid-19 and the message #TocaATothom.
“Bye, COVID” is the title of the photograph that illustrates the T-shirt, which shows a SARS-CoV-2 viral particle in a lung as seen by researchers through a microscope. The authors of the image are doctors Santiago Ramón y Cajal and Jordi Temprana, from Pathological Anatomy of the Hebron Valley Barcelona Hospital Campus.
The T-shirt can be purchased at the online shop of TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio at the price of 20 € and 18 €, in models for adults or children.
An exceptional edition
In the situation of exceptionality due to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic, and in view of the urgent need to advance in the search, the Board of Trustees of the La Marató de TV3 Foundation decided, on 21 April, to change the theme of this year’s Marathon to the Covid-19 and to move the edition of mental health to the year 2021, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of La Marató.
Thus, until 20 December and beyond, TV3, Catalunya Ràdio and the Fundació La Marató de TV3 will focus their efforts on raising awareness and disseminating information about the Covid-19 and will appeal to the solidarity of citizens to add resources to advance research to improve the quality and life expectancy of people affected by this far-reaching disease.
The figures of La Marató, a success of solidarity
Since 1992, La Marató has raised nearly 202 million euros and has financed 872 research projects, carried out by 1,369 teams, involving 8,000 researchers. Thanks to citizen solidarity, the project has become one of the main driving forces behind biomedical research in Catalonia and a powerful platform for raising awareness and social dissemination of the diseases treated, which is followed by more than 3 million people every year.
And this return to society can be seen every year at a symposium where the results obtained by the funded research projects are presented. Precisely, very soon we will know what scientific advances they have made in research on heart disease, which was the subject of the 2014 edition of La Marató.
