Our institute includes among its objectives to provide innovative technology solutions to these needs and to ensure the excellence in health care our hospital provides. To do so, the Innovation and Transfer Unit was created in 2010 with the aims of promoting an entrepreneurial and innovative culture among the health professionals at the hospital and transfering its knowledge towards the business sector.
The main objective of Sant Pau’s Innovation and Transfer Unit is to foster a culture based on open innovation and cooperation in R&D, with a straight focus towards market and internationalization.
Our innovation model aims to facilitate the innovation generated by Sant Pau’s professionals, to improve the translational ability of the centre, thereby strengthening its excellence and contributing to its economic sustainability.

Industrial engineer by training, she is specialized in innovation and technology transfer projects in the biomedical field. Thus, in the coordination of the innovation process from the definition and design phase of the product to the market launch. Until her incorporation to the Transfer and Innovation Unit of the Research Institute of the Hospital de Sant Pau-IIB Sant Pau, she was responsible for Innovation and Technology Transfer at the Fundació Parc Taulí.

Licenced in Biotecnology (UVic, Barcelona) and with a Master in Business Administration within the life science industry (CBS, Copenhaguen), Jana has developed her career towards the combination of science and business. With more than five years of experience between Denmark and Spain in business development within innovative environments, she is now leading the Innovation Strategy department on the IIB Sant Pau’s Transfer Office. In her new position, she will be responsible for the process of transforming cutting-edge research into innovative assets for the biomedical market and society.

Graduated in Biology from the University of Salamanca, she holds a Ph.D. in Biology from the same institution. During her postdoctoral stay in UK at Imperial College London and University of Cambridge, her research focused on the molecular bases of cancer, immunology and metabolic diseases. Upon moving to Barcelona, she complemented her education with courses on intellectual property and quality control, and obtained a Master degree in Leadership and Management of Science and Innovation at the UPF Barcelona School of Management. In 2018 she joined the Biomedical Research Institute – IIB Sant Pau’s Transfer and Innovation Unit, where her aim is to promote and valorise the ideas and inventions produced at the institute.

With a solid scientific background, as a consultant, he developed the capabilities for the management and coordination of international projects. He has extensive knowledge in the regulation of medicinal products in both the EU and the US. In 2024, he joined the Transfer and Innovation Unit to offer, promote and streamline innovation projects from the Institute's professionals.
