58th Annual Scientific Meeting of the European Society of Clinical Investigation in Barcelona

On June 5th, the Barceló Sants Hotel hosted the 58th Annual Scientific Meeting of the European Society of Clinical Investigation (ESCI). Under the theme “Connecting the Dots: The Power of Integrative Medicine,” the event brought together prominent scientists and medical professionals to discuss the latest advances across various disciplines.
The program featured eight simultaneous symposia covering topics from mitochondrial physiology to personalized medicine and age-related disorders. Keynote lectures by renowned experts provided unique insights into these areas.
During the 58th Annual Scientific Meeting of the European Society of Clinical Investigation, contributions from several members of the Perinatal and Women’s Medicine group stood out. Dr. Elisa Llurba served as moderator of the Symposium “Emerging diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for preeclampsia and preterm labor with a focus on placental health,” presenting her paper “Biochemical markers for preeclampsia: beyond angiogenic factors.” In the same symposium, Pablo García Manau presented his abstract “Incorporation of sFlt1/PIGF in the diagnosis and classification of preeclampsia for improving maternal outcomes. A multicenter randomized controlled trial.” Additionally, in the Symposium “Maternal diseases in pregnancy,” Dr. Llurba discussed “Low molecular weight heparin in the prevention of preeclampsia,” addressing innovations in maternal care.
Furthermore, Dr. Mónica Cruz led the symposium “Advances in reproductive medicine: bridging research and clinical practice,” presenting her study “Impact of exercise and Mediterranean diet vs aspirin on live-birth rate and cardiovascular programming in in-vitro fertilization.”
Lastly, Johana Ullmo contributed to the cardiovascular symposium “Imaging and pathophysiology” with her presentation titled “Early Cardiac function in women with and without high-risk of preeclampsia,” emphasizing the importance of prenatal cardiovascular diagnosis and highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of our Women and Perinatal Health Research group.
