On Wednesday, February 15 at 7 p.m., Dr. Eduard Gallardo Vigo, Supervisor Researcher of the Laboratory of Neuromuscular Diseases of the IRHSCSP, Research Group of Neuromuscular Diseases, and coordinator of the Consolidated Research Group of the Generalitat and of the U762 of CIBERER, will give a talk at the Guinardó Civic Center on cell crops applied to the study of neuromuscular diseases.
Duchene muscular dystrophy is a genetic disease that has an incidence of 1 in 3,500 births. It is an X-linked disease, which is why it mainly affects men, although we will see that in some cases it can affect women. In the talk we will see the origin of the disease, clinical aspects, diagnostic tests, and some attempts at therapy to slow down or cure the disease. We will talk about cell and animal models of the disease that are key to understanding the molecular mechanisms of the disease and for testing new therapies.
